چکیده

Nine hundred eighty species belonging to 182 genera of 15 subfamilies of the family Dolichopodidae were investigated to study antennal morphology. Length measurements of scape, pedicel, postpedicel and arista and height measurements of postpedicel bases were performed, and 4 ratios were selected. Use of morphometric characteristics of Dolichopodidae antennae allows meaningful distinctions between subfamilies to be made. Using these criteria, a cladistic tree of Dolichopodidae subfamilies was built.

Multiple, independent colonizations of the Hawaiian Archipelago by the family Dolichopodidae (Diptera)

The family Dolichopodidae forms two of the four largest evolutionary radiations in the Hawaiian Islands across all flies: Campsicnemus (183 spp) and the Eurynogaster complex (66 spp). They also include a small radiation of Conchopus (6 spp). A handful of other dolichopodid species are native to the islands in singleton lineages or small radiations. This study provides a phylogenetic perspective...

A new species of Sybistroma Meigen (Diptera: Dolichopodidae) from the Middle East with a key to West-Palaearctic species of the genus.

A new species, Sybistroma occidasiatica sp. nov., from the Middle East is described. It is close to S. inornata (Loew, 1857), but is distinguished by its long arista-like antennal stylus (longer than postpedicel) and short apicoventral epandrial lobe of the hypopygium (much shorter than cercus). The new species is peculiar in comprising two phenotypes, which can be distinguished by the length r...

Ultrastructure of the Antennal Sensillae of Male and Female Peach Fruit Fly, Bactrocera zonata

Antennal morphology and funicular sensillae of male and female peach fruit flies, Bactrocera zonata (Saunders) (Diptera: Tephritidae), were studied with scanning electron microscopy (SEM). This study focused on the sensillae found on the antennal segments (scape, pedicel, and flagellum or funiculus that bears the arista) of B. zonata. Antennal segments of females tended to be larger than those ...
